Chilean Poet Rojas Wins Cervantes Prize

Chilean poet Gonzalo Rojas has won the Cervantes Prize, the Spanish-speaking world's top literary award, which carries a $110,000 cash prize
His selection was announced Wednesday by a panel of Spanish and Latin American academics led by Victor Garcia de la Concha, president of the Royal Academy of the Spanish Language
"Rojas was one of the master poets of the young Latin and Hispanic writers " The prize is presented each April in a ceremony in the author's birthplace, Alcala de Henares He is a poet that has managed to create his own universe," Garcia de la Concha said
In 1992, he received the Reina Sofia Award for Latin American Poetry and Chile's National Literature Award
Rojas, 85, published his first book of poems, "The Misery of Man," in 1948
