Project Description:
THE ACCRINGTON PALS by Peter Whelan. Runs at Seattle Public Theater's Bathhouse on Greenlake from Nov 3rd thru 27th, 2005. Exchange Theatre's Artistic Director Vince Brady directs. Peter Whelan’s absorbing drama is based on real history, it is not only the story of a band of young men who enlisted and died in France; it is also the story of the womenfolk who were left behind, who grew into their new-found independence and who slowly came to realise that the propaganda they were being fed was based on lies. It is a moving and lyrical play about ordinary people coping with extraordinary times. New Statesman wrote: "I can't call to mind any playwright since Chekhov in the Three Sisters who has presented the loves, longings and sufferings of women with such humour and poignancy".
